Different Strokes is a registered charity providing a unique, free service to younger stroke survivors throughout the United Kingdom. Our services and the number of stroke survivors benefiting from them have grown dramatically since we were formed in 1996. We are run by stroke survivors for stroke survivors, for active self help and mutual support.

Healthcare for London is developing new ways to improve the healthcare of Londoners over the next ten years. This transformation is a major task, but already partner organisations, working groups and members of the public have come up with ideas to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of London’s healthcare. A consultation about the proposals, led by London's 31 Primary Care Trusts and Surrey PCT, closed on 7 March 2008.

The third edition of these world-renowned stroke guidelines provides the reader with the most comprehensive coverage of stroke care to date, encompassing the whole of the stroke pathway from acute care through to longer-term rehabilitation and secondary prevention. It informs health professionals about what should be delivered to stroke patients and how this should be organised, with the aim of improving the quality of care delivered for everyone who has a stroke, regardless of age, gender, type of stroke, or location.

Working for a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need Each year over 130,000 people in England and Wales have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

Stroke Improvement 

This new resource is to support improvements to identify strategies to meet the range of psychological needs of stroke survivors and carers.  The resource includes national standards for psychological therapy, case studies and useful links.  Six national projects about to embark on improvements to their psychology services for stroke will work with the national team for six months and the learning from the projects will be added to resource as more information becomes available.
