- Working for a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need Each year over 130,000 people in England and Wales have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.
This new resource is to support improvements to identify strategies to meet the range of psychological needs of stroke survivors and carers. The resource includes national standards for psychological therapy, case studies and useful links. Six national projects about to embark on improvements to their psychology services for stroke will work with the national team for six months and the learning from the projects will be added to resource as more information becomes available.
